Local Foot & Bike Races

There are a number of foot and bike races in Granville and the surrounding areas. These races feature scenic courses through the Slate Valley, along with varied terrain and race formats. From bike races through the area’s renowned gravel roads to family-friendly foot races, there is ample opportunity to enjoy friendly competition and connect with fellow runners and bikers.

Rails to Trails Footbridge 5K | Granville, NY

Started in 2010 to celebrate the opening of the covered footbridge over the Mettawee River, the Rails to Trails Footbridge 5K is open to all ages and ability levels. The relatively flat course starts at the Andrew’s Lane trailhead for the D&H Rail Trail and terminates at the footbridge over the Mettawee River. There is a kid’s 1k fun run option available in addition to the 5K. This race takes place annually in early June.

Vermont Super 8 | Montpelier, VT

The Vermont Super 8 race connects gravel roads, class 4 roads, rail trails, and singletrack traversing 650 miles through Vermont and Upstate New York. This bikepacking route gets its name from the “8” shape of the course. The race starts in Montpelier, Vermont in mid-September each year. It is a self-supported race designed for experienced bikepackers. The section through Granville follows the D&H Rail Trail. View the full route

Slate Valley Trails | Poultney, VT

Located just over the border in Vermont, the Slate Valley Trail System boasts over 50 miles of trails open to hikers and bikers. They host a number of foot races,  bike races, and outdoor events throughout the year. The courses feature varying terrain and beautiful views of the Taconic Mountains and surrounding landscape.

Analog Cycles | Poultney, VT

This bike shop hosts a handful of bike races and rambles each year. With routes that explore the tiny towns and hamlets in Slate Valley, these races are a great way to connect with the local gravel riding scene while discovering beautiful and rugged terrain.

Porcupine Bikes | Poultney, VT

Hosts bike events as well through Poultney Recreation.

Johnson & Son Bike Repair | Hampton, NY
